Welcome to the official page of the William Gilmore Simms Society, a scholarly society dedicated to facilitating the exchange of ideas about the life and work of William Gilmore Simms, one of 19th century America’s preeminent novelists, poets, and men-of-letters.
Here, you’ll find information about the Society–including membership information, the current issue of the Society’s official newsletter, a list of the Society’s officers, and its constitution and bylaws–as well as information about our biennial conference and links to Simms-related resources.
The Society is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and donations are tax-deductible in the United States. All donations are used to help the Society with its scholarly mission.
Status of the Society
Due to the various health, logistical, academic, and financial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Simms Society executive board has made the decision to suspend our biennial conference for the time being. We are tentatively planning on holding the conference in the Spring of 2022 at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama. Stay tuned for further updates.
